Picnic on the shore
Great Hall

Eating and Drinking
At Ackergill Tower we are blessed with some of the finest and freshest produce sourced from the local estates, rivers and coastline that surround us. The sweetest lamb, the tenderest cuts of beef and fish direct from the bustling market of Scrabster. Vegetables & herbs from local gardens, shell fish from our coastline, wild salmon from local fishermen and game from neighbouring estates – venison, duck and goose. And home baking aplenty to tempt even the most abstemious.

All things are possible, the choice is yours and Kevin, our Head Chef, will enjoy planning menus and discussing what is at its best during your stay before you come.

A picnic overlooking the treacherous Pentland Firth, barbecue in Helen’s Courtyard or a night of ceremony and sparkling silver and crystal under the watchful gaze of the ancestors in the Great Hall, our guarantee remains the seasons finest & freshest ingredients from the counties bountiful estates and varied coastline served effortlessly with a smile.

Cut deep into the castle rock many surprises are to be discovered in our cellar. An ammunition store in the 1940’s for the troops garrisoned at Ackergill but now returned to its original purpose, we scour the auction houses to keep the cellar stocked with interesting and fine wines. And as the food we serve changes with the seasons so too does the wine that accompanies it. From the biggest of reds to some gravelly whites, Johnnie & Martin will look forward to discussing wines and taking you to their kingdom to unearth the treasures that lie within.
